This document describes an 4 channel temperature measurement system: The New Smart temperature Acquisition System (SMTAS04usbmini). It is based on the use of the Smart-temperature sensors SMT172 of Smartec. The SMT172 is a three terminal integrated temperature sensor with a duty cycle output. Two terminals are used for the power supply of and the third terminal carries the output signal. The output signal of the sensor is a duty-cycle-modulated square-wave signal (see Figure 1).

This Application Note describes an evaluation board for the UTI. The UTI is a complete front-end interface for many types of passive sensors, such as resistive, resistive-bridge and capacitive sensors. The UTI converts low-level sensor signals to a period-modulated microcontroller-compatible signal. By the application of continuous auto-calibration a high accuracy, of up to 13 bits, is obtained. Full data of the UTI is available in the UTI specification sheet and should be consulted in conjunction with this Application Note when using the Evaluation Board.

The series SMTIRMOD09 infrared sensor modules are especially designed for OEM applications where infrared radiation temperatures have to be measured. The various modules are based on our SMTIR99XX series of infrared sensors. The different modules have different fields of applications and therefore different fields of view. All the devices have an I 2C output for standard interfacing to microcontrollers.
